our first "solo" day

Well, after 2 wonderful weeks with Michael home, he had to go back to work today. I was NOT looking forward to him being gone, and to be honest, I was kinda scared. Anyone who has been around us sometime during the last 2 weeks knows how hands on and wonderful Michael has been with Caleb. I kidded Michael all weekend about how many times he was going to call, but as the day went on, I called Michael more. :) Here is a brief overview of our day without daddy....

4:45AM (Michael was still in the bed) - Caleb decided this would be a good time to wake up hungry, wet and ready to play. We (mommy and Caleb) got up and ate. Caleb finally fell back asleep around 5:30 fed and dry.

7:30AM - Caleb was awake, hungry and ready for the day. We ate breakfast (the 2nd one of the day) and got dressed for the day.

8:45AM - Caleb fell back asleep and so mommy decided it would be a good time to shower. Mommy also called the doctor because Caleb has some serious "eye gunk" that wouldn't go away. They tell us to be there at 10:20 (mommy now has to hussle to get ready and out the door).

9:45AM - Mommy is showered and ready to go. She decides she should change Caleb's diaper before our appointment. Caleb decides this would be a good idea to pee all over his outfit. Lovely.

10:00AM
- We are out the door and on our way to the doctor.

10:20AM - We are at the doctor and we sit there for 15 minutes, then they tell us I am in the wrong waiting room. Lovely.

...have I mentioned how heavy his car seat is????....

10:45AM
- we are still waiting...in the right waiting room...for the doctor...

11:00AM - still waiting...

11:15AM - They call our name and it is time to weigh Caleb. He screams when I take his clothes off. Lovely...he has gained 5 oz in 7 days...yea!!!

11:20AM
- Caleb decides it is time to eat. I break out the bottle and feed him. He then proceeds to spit-up all over mommy and himself. Lovely.

11:30AM - The doctor comes in. He tells us that Caleb has 2 clogged tear ducts and needs an antibiotic. He then tells me he wants to do a culture on his eye to make sure there isn't anything more. He the proceeds to stick a q-tip into Caleb's eyelid. I have to hold his head still while he screams. Mommy then proceeds to start crying. It was not a pretty scene. The doctor then checks Caleb from head to toe and says he looks good, except his "gunky" eyes. The doctor then tells me that I have to take the culture to the lab...on the OTHER SIDE OF THE HOSPITAL!!!!!!!

...have I mentioned how heavy his car seat is?????????...

12:30PM - We meet Grandmommy at Sam's to buy wipes. Caleb sleeps through this experience.

1:00PM - Caleb and mommy venture to Kroger to have his prescription filled. They decide they will take FOREVER to fill our medicine.

1:45PM - We leave Kroger. Caleb is hungry. Mommy is hungry.

2:00PM - We are home (finally) and Caleb eats and falls asleep.

2:45PM
- Mommy goes to check on Caleb. Mommy obviously didn't put on his diaper right because he has wet the pac-n-play. We are now on outfit 2 for the day.

3:00 - 4:00PM
- This is kinda a blur for mommy. :)

4:08PM - DADDY COMES HOME!!!!!!

5:00PM
- Mommy takes a nap! :)

Whew! What a day!!! Who knew it would be such an exhausting day. We are looking forward to a quiet, calm day tomorrow. Ha ha -- we'll see....

I will post pictures of our little man soon!

Meet Caleb Michael Anderson!

I know this is a bit late, but Caleb Michael Anderson was born Sunday, October 12, 2008 at 5:21pm. He came weighing in a 7 lbs 15 oz and measuring 20 inches long.

Last Sunday was a very, very long day. My water broke around 3:30AM and we were at the hospital by 4:15. Around 5AM the confirmed that it was my water and that I would be having a baby that day. Around 6AM they started inducing me. I started pushing at 3:30PM and Caleb Michael was born at 5:21PM. Michael and I fell instantly in love. We are amazed how much we can love something. He is truly a miracle and a blessing to us.

This week has been very interesting. My mom came home from the hospital with us and stayed until Friday evening. She was amazing and I don't think Michael and I would have made it without her. Thanks mom!!! We are learning, slowly by surely, all about our little man. All of his cries and expressions are so wonderful to see. Have I mentioned how in love we are with him? :)

Here are some pics of Caleb and his first week of life. Enjoy! I know we are...

the end (or should I say beginning) is in sight!!!!!!

Today we went to the doctor for what I was hoping would be the last time (my due date is Saturday). It still could be the last appointment, but we just don't know.

To make a long story short, I hadn't made anymore progress, but the baby is very, very low. The doctor went ahead and scheduled an appointment for next Wednesday with an ultrasound (to check his size), but said he didn't think I would make it. He actually said he would be surprised if I made it through the weekend without going into labor. However, if I don't have the baby before Wednesday we will schedule an induction for next Thursday or Friday!!!! So, there is a light at the end of this 10 month tunnel...

So I guess now it is truly a waiting game. We will just have to wait and see when Caleb wants to join us!!

I also want to welcome Owen Michael Kelly to the world. My cousin (well, his wife) gave birth to Owen October 8, 2008 at 10:30pm - he was 8 lbs. 4 oz. Welcome Owen! I can't wait for you and Caleb to meet!!!

discharged: no babies

Well, for a little while today I thought Caleb would be entering the world today. To make a long story short and to spare some details, the doctor sent me to Labor and Delivery around 3:15 this afternoon because I thought my water had broken and that I had a slow leak (their words, not mine). I was at school when they told me to go on, so needless to say I was running around like a crazy person trying to divide up my kiddos to the other 1st grade teachers, get my things together and not totally scream and freak out!!! My mom came and picked me up (the school nurse wouldn't let me drive) and off we went. I was actually very calm and mom was freaking out. We got in the car and she asked me how to get to the hospital (it is literally around the corner). Then she laid a wheel pulling into the parking lot. Needless to say I was happy when the car was parked. :) Michael met us at the hospital, and when we got to L&D they took my blood pressure and it was very high, so they started taking it every 15 minutes and it eventually went back down to normal. They also hooked me up to 2 monitors - one to keep track of his heartbeat and the other was to track and measure my contractions. I was having contractions, many of which I didn't feel. It was cool to see that and listen to Caleb's heartbeat. They did a test to see if my water had broken and a non-stress test on the baby. Caleb passed his test. Me...not so much. After 2 1/2 hours, they came in and said that my water had not ruptured. They gave me instructions on what to look for, what to do when things start happening and sent me on my way. The papers they gave me when I left said...discharged: no babies. Lovely. Hopefully the next time we are at the hospital the papers will say discharged: 1 healthy baby boy. :)

come out, come out, wherever you are!!!

That's what I feel like saying to Caleb. I know that I have 9 days until my due date, but I can hardly contain myself with excitement and anticipation!!! We (Michael and me) are so ready for him to be here. So ready to hold him, kiss him and see what he looks like. We are ready to be parents!!!!

We went to the doctor yesterday, and not much has changed. I am still 1 cm. dialated (3 weeks and counting), but I am 70% effaced. I go back next Thursday (October 9th) if Caleb hasn't made his entrance, and I pray that things continue to progress. :)

That's it for now. Just waiting on Caleb to join us...
